Today DSM 5.2 is released by Synology. When we can have Xpenology for DSM 5.2?

DSM 5.1-5022 Update 5

I just installed a computer successfully, but with the base install and manually got it to Update 3.  Since 5.2 is out now, there is no way to “auto update” to Update 5, can we download it somewhere/somehow so we have all the current fixes. :)

DSM 5.0-4528 to something more recent on 32-bit

Hello, I have DSM 5.0-4528 installed on an old 32-bit netbook and it has been working just fine, but I wonder if I have the option of upgrading to something more recent. Control Panel says DSM 5.2-5565 is available, but I’m not sure if there are any suitable builds out there.

Here is how it looks at the moment:

Do you think the update is downloaded already since that box is ticked?
Any help with updating to a newer version will be greatly appreciated.

New install using drives from another NAS

Hello

Done a search however can not see if anyone else has asked this.

I would like to install Xpenology on a HP Microserver using 2x 4TB reds which have been formatted as EXT4 on another NAS box (not using Raid) – so just two separate drives.

Can I install Xpenology onto a USB drive, boot from it and use these drives without the need of re-formatting them (so I keep the data that is on them) ?

Also I would like to have the 2 hard drives separate, I guess I would need to have 2 volumes, 1st volume would be HD 1, 2nd volume I would select HD2? Can I do this and still keep the data on the drives?

Many Thanks.

raid6 hardware question

Hello…I am planning on running 8 disk raid in RAID6  (5tb x 8 WD reds)

So far my this is the hardware I have picked out:

CPU: A10-5800K Trinity Quad-Core 3.8GHz
Motherboard: GA-F2A88XM-D3H FM2+
Chassis: SilverStone DS380B
RAM

Few questions aht I have:

My question is do i need to buy a motherboard that supports RAID6 (which is rare) or will Xpenology work with the drives it finds attached to the motherboard  and construct a raid-6?

Any feedback about hardware that I picked would be welcome.   Main reason for choosing the motherboard because it has 8sata ports on-board.   The case chosen for hot-swappable functionality and back-plane.   Any recommendations on a power supply would be great …not sure how much power this build will draw.

Identifying HDD that are bad

Hello all…im starting to put together Xpenology box.   While waiting for some hardware to ship out I had a question:

How easy is it to identify the physical hard drive that fails in XPenology?    In Synology appliance they can just let the user know which bay the bad drive is in.  But if we are using our own hardware how do we track down the bad drive (assuming all drives are same size).

Does it go by serial number (meaning we need to keep track of where each drive is connected and its serial number)?

Or is there a better method?

EDIT: updated wording to try and clarify my question

This is very strange …i have a AMD A10-5800K APU but Xpenology sees it as an INTEL Core i3-4130  (screenshot)

But when I ssh into Xpenology box and run:

// number of core

> cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep processor | wc -l

4

>

>

//get actual number of cores

> cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'core id'

core id         : 0

Anyone have ideas about this discrepancy?

XPEnology for DSM 4?

Hi!

I was wondering if there is any possibility of getting a DSM 4 version of XPEnology.
As I’m currently (re)writing a Syno Downloader plugin, it would be great to be able to work offline just on my laptop with a VM.

Thanks

Hello all,

I am currently running DSM 5.0-4493 update 4.  It has been rock solid for 6 months and am scared to update.  I want to know the best route to take.  I guess i should create another USB drive with the latest XPEnoboot and boot from that then do upgrade?  what version should i go with?  do i have to do some incremental updates first or can i go right to the latest update?

Thank you!!!

How stable is

Hi yo all

I have few questions and if you some one could pop me an answer would be fantastic..

fist some back story…

I got taste of synology software few years ago and I liked it.

Now I have 2 of  HP microservers 1 x N40l running MHS 2011 (skow as shit)

and i bought N54l Microserver with 8GB ram and I have 2x3TB and 2xTB disks
like to put those 4 disks in 1x  set of raid 1 and 2 simple volume disks.. total amount of storage 8TB (just about)
Whant to set my photograps on raid 1 disks.

I am going to use this as media server also, having Sickbeard and  alowing my family member to access the “media” folder with there XBMC on there Appletv2,

and from my desktop pc drop some torrent files to folder and have the N54L dl it for me…

and now for some questions….

1. Is this setup ( Xpenology) on N54L stable enough to trust it for my images ??

2. what is the benefit if any is installing  Synology DSM 5.0 (4493) (ESXi  or  Non ESXI)

3 are there any problems with getting “apps” for this ?

4 is something like Freenas (similar) better for this kind of usage or even Winserver ??

…well, .. will not post more questions att this time…

hope you find time to answer…
